Think back on your childhood. What was the craziest thing you did as a child? Why did you do it? Would you ever do anything like that now as an adult?
As a child, the thrill alone was enough to keep me eager to try something new. However, as an adult, the thrill can get squashed under the weights of life. Our responsibilities seem to outweigh our once cherished passions and dreams. We guilt ourselves out of trying new things simply because others might think it is “trivial”. But let me reassure you that doing an activity or hobby you enjoy should never be classified as trivial!

There are hundreds of things you could be doing with your life. Are you afraid to try something new? “There are two kinds of people in the world: those who cross things off of their bucket list…and those who don’t even have a bucket list! Which one are you?” The idea of newness should ignite a passion inside. If it doesn’t, it might be time to reassess your life.
As long as we are blessed to wake up each morning, we can try new things. We may not be able to do it all but we should try! “If you never try, you’ll never know.” (Author Unknown) Many are not fully enjoying life because they are too afraid to step out and try something new.
Have you told yourself any of these lies before?
“You are too old to do that.”
“You have too many kids.”
“You will look silly.”
“You are probably having a midlife crisis.”
“This is just a phase.”
Forget that! There is such joy when you try something new. Recently, I found a little slice of heaven minutes away from my house. It’s a peaceful wide-open meadow. I have driven past this area frequently but never realized it was a place that you could actually drive through. There is a hidden path that leads to a bench in the middle of nature. This has brought me joy and peace that I have been seeking for my writing time.
Don’t be afraid to try new places and hobbies. It could be what you are missing—the answer to a longing that has been unfulfilled.
