A few days ago I left out to pick up my children from school and I realized that once again it was snowing. However, it wasn’t just snowing but there was a full-fledged lake effect blizzard taking place. The roads were horrible, visibility was low, traffic was stagnant, it was dark and gloomy outside and to be honest I was feeling quite gloomy on the inside. I thought to myself, “Is this cold weather ever going to end?”

The reality is, whether you live in the Midwest like I do or on the East Coast where we oftentimes have to face treacherous winters verses those who have the pleasure of soaking up the sun in Arizona, driving down Miami beach in Florida or relaxing at the beach in California during the winter months, we all have “dark, gloomy and cold” days that we must survive.

These “dark, gloomy and cold” days come in the form of uncomfortable situations, tragedies, hardships, and misfortunes. The key to our surviving them is found in our attitude. We can allow ourselves to settle with the perspective that things are always going to be like this or we can push on in our spirit with the resolve that “this too shall pass.”

So, do you know what happened to me that day? I decided that although I couldn’t change the weather, I could certainly change my attitude. Immediately I began to engage in some positive self-talk and took on a new perspective.

And just-like-that I felt better.

Do you know what happened the next day? The very next day the sun was shining so bright that it began to melt the new snow as well as some of the old snow that had been lingering for weeks. This is just a simple reminder to us all that know matter how hard life might seem things do get better.

Now, I know this might seem a little corny but I couldn’t help but to close this message out with one final thought from Annie. The message is clear and simple:

If you just hold on the sun is going to shine again. Things do get better.

Don’t give up,
~ Kish

Just thinkin’ about tomorrow
Clears away the cobwebs and the sorrow ’til there’s none

When I’m stuck with a day that’s grey and lonely
I just stick up my chin and grin and say, oh

The sun will come out tomorrow
So you gotta hang on
’til tomorrow, come what may!
Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow
You’re only a day away!

~ Lyrics from the Song “Tomorrow” from the musical “Annie” ~
