One of the most valuable things that I continue to do for my personal development and spiritual growth is to read books. Most of the time, I find myself reading 4 – 5 different books on a monthly basis.
My library generally consists of spiritual, personal development, and business books. Right now, I am currently reading 4 books consisting of all these genres. (This does not include the books that my company is working on for our authors.)
One book I’m reading, “The One Minute Entrepreneur,” has a great storyline that I’m following which outlines a lot of good principles that should be implemented in business as well as life. Throughout the book, the importance of having mentors in your life and heeding their advice is emphasized.
I was just reading the book this morning and began to reflect on the many mentors I have and how their presence in my life has been a tremendous benefit. Then, I thought about you and how I could provide you some insight on book publishing that would add value to your life.
I flipped through my notebook and read through some of the notes that I had jotted down during my VIP Mastermind with my business coach and New York Times Best Selling Author, Lisa Nichols.
I have made a commitment that the more I receive, the more I will continue to give to others. Some people call it “Paying it Forward;” I’d just like to think of it as sowing.

The 7 Strategies from a New York Times Best Selling Author:
1. A strategy to help you when writing your book is to jot down all the topics you want to mention in the book on separate sheets of blank paper. Then make each topic digestible and doable by creating an outline.
2. A book is a very expensive business card. People won’t throw it away like they would a business card. They don’t lose a book like they would a business card. Your book will be with them years after your business card has been tossed aside. Never forget the VALUE your book holds.
3. Your mind should be focused on the opportunities that your book will create for you and not just the money it will make for you. Think, “What do I need my book to do for me?”
4. You should treat your self-published book as though it were being published by a traditional, reputable publisher and create a book proposal. Remember, approximately 30% of your book will be centered around what the book is about, while the rest will be about your marketing plan. Your Marketing Plan is the key to your book’s overall success!
5. You should schedule a book tour for the release of your book, no matter how small or great your audience is. What is the purpose of publishing a book, if no one knows it exists? There are incredible benefits from making one-on-one, in-person connections with those who want to hear what you have to say and read what you have published!
6. Every time you have an audience, be sure to create an experience centered around providing value based on the theme of your book. When your audience receives the value of the deposits you have made, investing in your book will become the obvious next step. There is no need to try and “sell them” with this type of attitude.
7. Successful authors understand that you NEVER sell your book. You sell the story that centers around what your audience is in need of or can identify within your book.
I don’t want you to take any of these strategies for granted. Dr. LaTisha Glass, this week’s Author Spotlight Featured Story, is a wonderful example of understanding the power of Strategy #3.
Dr. LaTisha is using her book to create ministry and professional opportunities as a speaker on platforms that she had previously dreamed of. (Check out her testimony below.) Your book can do the same for you.
