Wherever you are and whatever you are doing I hope you are keeping warm! Listen, there’s something about insults I want to share with you that I really believe will be a blessing.

Insults come in all manners and gestures. Sometimes you can feel insulted as the result of an expression and at other times it can be the result of a rude response. Oftentimes, we are insulted by others who don’t even realize their actions.

Just the other day, as we were preparing to travel back from Texas to the rigid cold winds of our hometown Chicago, we were made fun of a few times by several different people under several different circumstances.

First, it was the waitress at the restaurant who assured us that we must be “dreading” our return home to such cold weather. Next, it was a couple who resided in Texas that jested, “I’m sure you all are not ready to return to your cold city are you?”

Then, when we arrived at the rental car drop-off on our return home the shuttle driver could not stop making fun regarding how “cold it was in Chicago”. “How in the world do you all do it?”, he asked. “It’s 70 degrees here and you are returning to 7 degrees there. How can you even stand it?”

I admit, we thought all this commotion about how cold it was in our hometown was a bit comical but then when we actually arrived at the airport even the TSA verifying our identity had to chime in by saying, “Chicago! It’s cold in Chicago! I know you’re not ready to go back there!” Once again, we (my husband and I) both smiled and just laughed it off.

How can this be helpful to you?

The reason why we were able to consistently keep a good attitude despite the constant jokes, off the cuff insults and outbursts suggesting that we must be miserable living in Chicago was because of the resolve in our hearts. See, my husband and I have determined that Chicago is our home and because this is something we have settled on, our vision is not hindered.

What does this have to do with you reaching your goals and getting the results you want this year?

I have learned that one of the reasons people are not able to reach their goals is because they have not settled on the absolutes. When you don’t have an absolute as your anchor:

your focus is scattered
your decisions are hindered
your perspective jaded and
your plans are not concrete.

We (again, my husband and I) have absolutely resolved that Chicago is our home. And because home is where the heart is, we have settled from within that our heart will be in Chicago. Because our hearts are in Chicago, it does not matter the obstacles that we must face. Whether cold weather, numerous reports, statistics and media broadcasts of violence, or an uncertain economy, we are here to stay for as long as we understand that this is where our purpose is at. We have our church family and our vision that is keeping us on point.

So…

What do you do when life’s insults come your way?

Are you rooted and grounded in your absolutes?

Have you determined that nothing can hinder your focus?

I hope you know the answers to these questions and that those answers are absolutes that serve as an anchor for you as you aspire to reach your goals!

Absolutely Do It (cold weather and all),

~Kish~
